Tryout FAQs

What is my player's age group?
Beginning Fall 2016, GSA Junior Academy, Academy and Select teams will be organized by Calendar Year where players born between January 1 to December 31, as opposed to the School Year where age groups are based on the August 1-July 31 dates, will be placed into one age group. With the change, players will still be allowed to "play up" and play in an older age group, based on an individual player's physical, emotional and skills development. The club will continue to place players on teams based on age appropriate level of play and ability.

For the 2017-18 seasonal year, our age groups will align with the following Calendar Year guidelines.

7U and 8U

What do I need to wear? What do I bring?

  • GSA Players will receive information from their coach or director as to what they should wear to tryouts.
  • Non-GSA players are free to wear comfortable soccer-appropriate gear.
  • Players are required to wear shin guards and shoes (cleats or turfs).
  • Each player should bring a ball and water.

Do I need to attend all three tryout nights?

  • It is highly recommended that players attend all three nights.
  • If you are unable to do so, contact the corresponding coach for your age group prior to tryouts.  Staff lists are posted under About GSA.

What if I am ill or injured prior to or during tryouts?

  • Complete the registration process online and include a note as to your specific situation.
  • Contact the corresponding coach for your age group prior to tryouts.  Staff lists are posted under About GSA.
  • It is recommended that injured players attend tryouts but once there, they will not participate.

Can I try out for multiple clubs?

  1. Players are free to investigate other clubs to determine what is best for each player and their family.
  2. Our staff are always available to answer questions about our program.
  3. Open communication is important so we know your intentions.
