Girls ECNL National Playoffs - Recap Day 4

Girls ECNL National Playoffs - Recap Day 4

-DAY 4 -

July 3, 2021 - Premier Sports Campus / Lakewood Ranch, FL

In the ECNL National Playoffs there are no easy days; there are hard days and there are harder days.  Day 4 lived up to that tradition.

The 06s played a very strong Texas-based team, Challenge SC.  After starting a bit flat, they conceded a goal on a counter.  The game went very late with the same 0-1 scoreline.  GSA had multiple clear chances to equalize including a shot that was cleared off the line in the waning moments of the match.  The game ended in a 0-1 loss.  The 06s get a much needed rest day tomorrow, and faceoff against Bethesda SC on Monday, July 5th in the final game of group play.

For the 3rd game in a row, the 04s went to penalties to decide the match.  After going up 1-0 early in the match off a goal from Regan Lundstedt, GSA controlled most of the match.  It took a fantastic effort by Albion Hurricanes SC to draw even late in the match.  The penalty shootout would be decided in 5 kicks with Albion making 3 shots and GSA making only 2.  The 04s finish the 2020-21 season as Semo\i-finalists in the North American Cup.  Congrats to all the players, parents, and coaches for a great season, and we look forward to seeing what's in store next season after a well deserved break.

-DAY 3 -

July 2, 2021 - Premier Sports Campus / Lakewood Ranch, FL

Day 3 of the ECNL Postseason was filled with true National Contender competition.  The day started off with our 06s enduring a 4 hr weather delay. It didn’t seem to impact them too much as they dispatched the Portland Thorns by a score of 4-0.  Goal scorers included:  Grace Maddox, Kathleen Ngulefac, Madyson Bentil, and Mary Newton.  They take on a tough Texas based club, Challenger SC, tomorrow at 9:45 am.

The 05s had a rematch from game 1 of ECNL NC.  The setting today was great on the stadium field with over 70 college coaches in attendance.  After a fast paced, back-and-forth match neither team could find a way through the other’s defense and the game ended 0-0.  Tomorrow the 05s rest for an Independence Day showdown with with Seattle-based Crossfire Premier.

The 07s continued to represent GSA with an incredible amount of heart and desire.  In a series of unfortunate events, they conceded a goal late to lose by a score of 1-2.  It was a fantastic match with favorable conditions, and we are so proud of their performance.  They get a much needed rest day tomorrow ahead of their final match against Portland FC.  Goal scored by Kylie Williams.

The 04s are rested up and back in action tomorrow in the North American Cup Semi-Final vs Texas-based, Albion Hurricanes FC.

-DAY 2 -

July 1, 2021 - Premier Sports Campus / Lakewood Ranch, FL

Day 2 of the ECNL Postseason was BUSY for GSA. The 04s continued their winning ways again having to get the result in kicks from the mark.  It was a great game from both teams, and it was a shame these two had to meet rather early in the competition.  Micah Bryant was the lone goal scorer off a solo effort from long distance that beat the keeper high.  Katie Oakley made THREE saves during the shootout, and Addison Neal sealed the win with the final kick.  The 04s have a much needed rest day tomorrow, and will play in the semi-finals on Friday, July 3rd.

The 05s handled a tough SoCal Blues team 4-2 in the first game of the Champions League Playoffs.  After jumping to a quick 2 goal lead, SoCal was able to score at the very end of the half to make the game interesting heading into the second half.  Goal scorers for GSA were Vienna Lundstedt, Angie Jackson, Sarah Greiner, and Aniyah Collier (who hit a left-footed shot from well over 30 yards out that sailed past the keeper).  Tomorrow the 05s will take on World Class FC who we saw in #ECNLNC just a few weeks ago.  It should be a fast-paced exciting match at 1:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

Our 07s began play against top-ranked McLean YSA.  Unfortunately, we just couldn’t finish the chances that we created; it was a great game, and both teams played well.  We will play Indiana Fire tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. in a must-win match to stay alive in the group stage.

A special thanks to the well over 100 college coaches in attendance at our matches today, and from all the individual interest they have show in our players!

Tomorrow, our 06s begin play in the 15U Champions League division against the Portland Thorns at 11:45 a.m.

Time to rest, recover, and plan for a busy Day 3!

- DAY 1 -

June 30, 2021 - Premier Sports Campus / Lakewood Ranch, FL

Day 1 of the ECNL Postseason is in the books and it certainly did not disappoint. The post season competition uses a staggered schedule, so that not every age group plays on the same days.  Today, GSA opened up play with our 2004 Girls competing in the coveted North American Cup.  Fighting typical, Central Florida summer weather, our girls battled hot, humid conditions and came out on top in a tale of two halves.  Up 3-0 at half time, the game turned on its head and at the end of regulation the game was tied at 4-4!  Per competition rules, the match went straight to kicks from the mark.  Georgia Southern University commit, Katie Oakley, managed to make two great saves, and Ashlyn Joyner was able to seal the victory with the 6th kick in the top right hand corner.

Goal scorers:  Mississippis State Commit, Bailey Wagenknecht (2), Jazmin Ferguson (1), and Yale Commit, Regan Lundstedt (1).  Regan Lundstedt also had three assists on the day.

Day 2 of competition kicks off at 11:30 a.m. with our 2004 Girls continuing their quest to be named North American Cup Champs against the Colorado Rapids.

Tomorrow also features the first day of competition for two other GSA ECNL teams:  Our 2005 Girls Southeastern Conference Champions opening up play at 1:30 p.m. in the top flight Champions League against Seattle-based, Crossfire Premier Soccer Club, followed by our 2007 Girls beginning their post season play against Virginia-based, McLean Youth Soccer Association.

Time to rest, recover, and plan for a busy Day 2!
